In a perfect world, you would get to keep all your teeth, fully functional, for life. Here at Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we do our part by performing expert root canal therapy. An infected of damaged tooth can either be treated in this manner, or the tooth has to be extracted. By far, the better option is our Franklin Square root canal. The more you know about the procedure, the more confident you will feel about it.
Despite what some people think, there is no reason to fear root canal therapy. With the advanced techniques and state-of-the-art equipment we use at our office, your experience will include very little to no discomfort at all. It is done under local anesthesia, but if you're nervous then either nitrous oxide or oral sedation are available to keep you fully relaxed. Our Franklin Square root canal is not surgery. There is no cutting, no stitches, and no bandages. Inside your tooth is its own nerve and blood supply, components that are essential for the growth of the tooth, but dispensable afterward. That's why they can be removed without any ill effects. Our dentist drills off the top half of the tooth, takes out the infected nerve and pulp, and then cleans and disinfects the canals, adding an inert filling to help keep them free of further infections. After a brief wait for the tooth to heal, you will return to have a crown made and fitted. This crown restores the tooth to full size, appearance, and function, while keeping it protected. A temporary crown is placed during the time between the procedure and the placement of the permanent crown.
Symptoms like pain when you chew or put pressure on the tooth, temperature sensitivity, tooth discoloration, and gum tenderness signify that you need attention right away. So contact our office to arrange an appointment.
